TSUNAMI MCVICKER ~ 2005

It so happened that the mosquitoes were thick that day
The heat played upon our skin like syrup
We were victims before we knew it
They had waited for their prey

Mother drove us from our house
We were enchanted by the river
What we saw there was not disturbing
Although, it may have pause for some

The River flows near by
Our souls are so entwined
The life it brings and takes away
We give to God, in our mind

Then it came, at first I could not believe
A wave of town came floating by
I recognized houses and people
I started to run to them

But I realized I was futile
These things, God ,has taken away
I looked to see my sister and my house
It too had gone in my delay

The River began to move me
I ran as I stood still
Faces passed before my eyes
I’ll fight, this can’t be real.

The taste of life immortal
Stinks of blood and fear
We stand for ourselves without knowing
No one now will see our tears

We find ourselves alive
With no one to love and hold
Only relief from others
Our story to be told
